Blindness affects far more than sight. It impacts a person’s independence, dignity, livelihood, and future. Across Pakistan, countless individuals lose their vision not because treatment is unavailable, but because it is financially out of reach. A treatable retinal disease becomes lifelong blindness. A simple cataract leads to years of darkness. Many diabetic patients go unscreened until it is too late.
ERWO exists to change this. We believe that sight is not a privilege, but a fundamental human right..
Our Presence in Canada
ERWO Canada was established to empower the Pakistani diaspora and compassionate Canadians to take a stand against avoidable blindness. Our chapter focuses on grassroots fundraising and advocacy, ensuring that the life-changing work happening at ERWO hospitals continues to grow. From sponsoring surgeries to providing diagnostic equipment, ERWO Canada is committed to transforming lives—one patient at a time.

Our Purpose
The Burden Of Blindness In Pakistan
Pakistan faces a critical and growing challenge in eye health. Millions suffer from conditions such as:
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Age-related macular degeneration
• Retinal detachment
• Glaucoma
• Corneal diseases
• Congenital and hereditary disorders
• Trauma-related injuries
Specialised care is often unaffordable. Retinal surgeries can cost between Rs. 150,000–450,000, and required anti-VEGF injections add recurring expenses that are beyond the means of most families.

It is the first and only retina-focused welfare NGO in Pakistan dedicated to providing free retinal treatment to financially vulnerable patients.
